The most important book on Sufism ever published.
Terry W. Williams, Ph.D., Del Mar, CA. Idries Shah's The Sufis, first published in 1964, is the seminal work of this famous Afghan author and a first-of-its-kind modern statement on Sufism. A famous Sufi once said, "Previously Sufism was a reality without a name. Now it's a name without a... -
An unforgettable, eye-opening book
Through lack of information, misunderstanding and cultural prejudice, the words 'Sufi' and 'dervish' have acquired strange associations in the West, where they're likely to conjure up images of wild-eyed ragamuffins or whirling fanatics. Idries Shah's compelling book THE SUFIS shows this to be...

He was a Sufi?
Sufism is a legitimate branch of Islam, or a latter innovation?
Noooo the Prophet Muhammad (God Almighty bless him and grant him peace) was not a Sufi. The term "Sufism" was not known at the time of the Messenger or Sahaabah (Companions) or Taabi'een (the next generation after the Companions).
Prophet's Birthday Solaces Nigeria Muslims
But the occasion was celebrated by Nigerian Muslims with mixed feelings of joy and sorrow as the country is rocked by attacks by the militant group Boko Haram.
“We are in despair over the senseless killing of Nigerians by fellow Nigerians and the sacrilegious invasion of churches,” said Akintola.
“We cannot be celebrating while fellow Nigerians are weeping over their dead and maimed.
“We therefore mourn with our mourning brothers and sisters wherever the bereaved may be. We pray that Allah will give all the affected families the strength to bear their losses.”
Marking the occasion, Nigerian authorities declared Monday, February 6, a national holiday.
President Goodluck Jonathan called on Muslims to pray for enduring peace, progress and stability in the country, a call echoed by Nigerian Muslim leaders.
“This year's Mauludul-Nabiyyi calls for sober reflections. It calls for prayers for our dear country,” Akintola said.
“Nigeria today is at the crossroads. The foundation of this country is shaking. We are now exactly where we were in 1967.
The Imaginative Conservative: Among the Paynim: The Sufi's Riddle
The conservative imagination is a forum for those who seek truth, goodness and beauty. We call culture, liberal education, politics, economics, literature, the arts and the American Republic in the tradition of Russell Kirk, TS Eliot, Edmund Burke, Irving Babbitt, Paul Elmer More, Wilhelm Roepke, Robert Nisbet, ME Bradford, Christopher Dawson and other leaders of fanciful conservatism.Maulana or Mevlana (Master) Jalaludin Rumi (1207-1273 AD) was born in Balkh, a large medieval town in northern Afghanistan, who with his family while a teenager fled advancing armies of Genghis Khan through Persia to modern Turkey . Therefore he is known by the Persians and Afghans as Jalaludin Balkhi, the world as Rumi (from Rum or Rome, that is the eastern border of Byzantium) and the Turks simply as Mevlana adoration, as if there is no other. He founded the Mevlevi Order of the so-called "whirling" dervish often worship in a complex and beautiful dance that seems to emulate the movements of the planets. He left behind a massive work of mystical poetry that is loved all over the (mostly non-Arab) Muslim world and he is sometimes said to be both the best-selling poet in modern America, or, more probably, the most translated....
